  • Tower Records used to have (probably still does) "Desert Island Discs" or DID's, in which people list the ten records (that's how long ago this was) they couldn't live without, if stranded on a desert island. (Surely making lists of stuff one can't live without predates that by a few hundred years, but that's when I first heard of it.)

    Anyway it struck me this is a useful euphemism.
